Recently there was a class action lawsuit against NVIDIA and the court approved settlement for the class action lawsuit. You can read all about the lawsuit and see if your are eligible here at http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/index.html. Basically if you have a laptop that looks like it powers on but you see nothing on the display and it is one of the affected models on this page here http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/affectedmodels.html then you can submit a claim at https://roscomps3.securesites.net/www.nvidiasettlement.com/claimform.php and hopefully you will get some kind of reimbursement. If possible, I would try for a full replacement laptop if offered instead of monetary compensation as I believe you will get the better deal this way.
Now if you own a HP and you tried filing a claim but received a message that your system was not covered or ineligible and your system is listed as one of the affected models, please go back and try again. There was an issue with the system between January 10th and the 22nd. It looks like this has been corrected so you now have another chance to get in on the claim.
The deadline to file a claim is March 14th http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/dates.html so please hurry and get your claim in before you loose out on a chance to get reimbursed. Plus I feel it is our Duty to send these claims in to hold companies responsible for their errors, otherwise the consumers will continue to foot the bill to cover the costs of their faults.
