Help!
I have an HP laptop and we have a wireless network for our internet at home. I was searching for something on google and suddenly the webpage said that I had downloaded a bunch of malware and spyware and that I needed to click here to get rid of it right away. It said it was from HP, but now I'm doubting that it was... One of the names was Trojan, which I know is a virus. I had ClamWin installed and it runs daily. Unfortunately, it keeps saying "permission denied" whenever it runs. I just ignored it. I attempted to install a 2002 version of Norton Antivirus last night, which didn't work b/c I have Vista. I tried to run what parts of Norton I had and now the internet no longer works from my laptop. I'm afraid to restart my computer for fear that this will make things worse. Also, I'm afraid if I reset my modem, that I will no longer have internet on either computer. My husband and I attempted to boot the laptop from the Norton disk, but had no clue what to do from that point. I even tried googling it, but obviously, I couldn't find anything that helped. I did download a freeware malware/spyware program that I have used on this computer, but I haven't tried to use on the laptop. Help! What should I do?
I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment laptop and Windows Vista.

First of all let me say to you that you were a victim of social engineering. Unfortunately this happens a lot. Hopefully when other read this, they will know what to do. The message you got was a popup that looks like an actual online virus scan company, and tricks you into thinking you have a virus. So you try to fix it by clicking the link, and once you do, then the virsu or trojan gets installed and then you start having problems.

An easy fix with Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 is to use the system restore feature and restore your system to a date before you got the virus. After you computer is back up, then immediately install an anti-virus program and let it scan your computer. If at all possible, this should be done disconnected from the internet, but sometimes you may need to if the anti-virus program needs to download updates.

Here is a good link on how to do a system restore with Windows Vista or Windows 7: www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/us...ista-system-restore/

According to the e-mail I got, it looks like the problem was solved using the system restore. Now just follow this thread here to get your free anti-virus program: www.kmctechguy.com/index.php?option=com_...p;catid=12&id=14
