Well it's me again...
I didn't remove the virus, i tried to re-install windows XP but because i didn't have the original i went and buy one copy from EBAY but it was a pirate copy (this is what i get for going cheap) and it damage my laptop.
I spent over $100 to buy windows 7 from a legitime source and it works great but i lost my sound on my laptop. how can i get my sound back? I don't know what type of card do i have and what what brand.
one question but for my future...
my dream and goal is to become a computer tech working as a computer helpdesk tech. As you can tell i'm learning a lot by asking you and dealing with my own issues plus i'm very passionate about technology.
I have a bachelor's degree in Criminal law (yes this has nothing to do with computers)but before I get busy in starting a Masters in Computer sciences and probably waste my money, could you tell me what is the best course(s)or degree that I could get in order to reach my goal?
Thanks
by the way I donate to the cause..

Send me the specs on your laptop and I'll send you a link where to download the latest drivers for your sound card. It's most likely a sound card driver issue.
As far as a degree in Computer Science, I can't really say which field to go into to. I would speak to a career counselor at the school you are attending. There are just too many different options out there. I would say just go for what you like the most and you think you would enjoy. If you like what you are doing, the classes you take will be more interesting, and you will get more out of it. Before speaking to a career counselor, think about what you would like to do in the field of technology or computers, like a computer programmer, hardware engineer, software developer, network administrator, telecommunications, or if you want to be a tree geek go for all of them. Whatever you decide, it's going to take time, but don't worry so much as technology is changing so fast that by the time you start learning, the stuff I know will be out dated.
Thanks for the donations and good luck choosing a study field. If you need more help, just let me know.

I have a DELL Latitude D600
windows 7
now as far as the degree, i know i just want to be a regulat tech that come and fix your computer (like a help desk)software problem, troubleshot, just like you do in here. I don't want to go to high like programming, software developer, etc. I just want know the troubleshot part. So since there are so many degrees out there, i just want to make sure that i choose the right one. Do you have a degree? if so in which field? Thanks for the help again

Unfortunately Dell does not have Windows 7 drivers for your system, probably cause your laptop is fairly old. But that's the great thing about Windows 7 that it can run on old systems. Try to use Windows Update and see if it can find a driver for your system. If not, I'll look around some more to see if I can find a driver for your system somewhere else.
As far as learning what I do, you won't learn most of it from school. It comes from years and years of experience. I have taken a quite of few technical classes as well, that have helped. College for me has just been an overview and not that much of a help. I'm still taking classes and my Major is in Computer and Information Science. If you are looking to starting with PC repair, you should start by taking an A+ class designed to help you get the CompTia A+ Certification. There are many books and classes you can take, which a lot of them are not done in a college. My best recomendation is to start messing with computers as much as you can and try to learn as much as you can through experience. It's a long process, and I'm sorry but I do not have an easy answer for you. I've been working with computers since I was a kid back in the 80s, and have been messing with them ever since. I've also got many years experience in the Telecommunications field which has helped as well. It's good that you want to learn, now you just need to find a field to focus on and do as much as you can to learn. College is just one way to learn what I know, but it wont come overnight or even in a year. Your skills will develop over time as long as you stick to it. Good Luck.

If you have any more questions concerning learning this stuff, just PM me as it's getting away from your issue.
I've been reading so more on your laptop, and it is known to have problems with the sound card. The remedy on many systems was to uninstall the driver, reboot and have Windows reinstall it. I have also read that there are sometimes issues with the modem causing a problem if it is bad. You should be able to disable the modem in the bios, and then boot up and see if any of these possible solutions help. If you need more detailed instructions let me know.

You may also wish to try downloading and running Dell Diagnostics Tool in case your sound card is damaged.
