Getting a television repaired in K-Town 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I have a KTV 46'' LCD that I just bought last March that has stopped working. When I turn it on all it shows is a few hundred different colored horizontal lines and won't do anything else including turn back off. I've lived near K-Town for about a year but have no clue where to get a repair done.

Sorry it took so long to answer this thread. Been very busy lately. Anyway, I called around and did some checking. Around here it looks like the German TV repair companies don't want to mess with the American TVs as they can't get replacement parts for it. AAFES can take it and they have a repair cage, which just means they will send it off to the manufacturer to get fixed and charge you the repair bill. Unfortunatly, that looks like the only way.

There are a few things you can do with the LCD TV before you turn it in though as there are some things besides a bad screen that may be causing your problems.

1. All new TVs have a computer inside them. Turning the TV and leaving it unplugged for 24 hours can reset the computer if it is causing the problem.

2. Interference can cause issues as well on LCD TVs. Make sure you are not using an old Transformer. It's better to go straight to wall power with nothing else plugged into it. At least for testing. Please make sure your TV is dual voltage first though. It should show on the back if the input voltage is 110-220 or higer. Some say 110-240. If it's not dual voltage, make sure you have a new transformer as some of the old ones can cause a lot of interference. Get a loaner from a buddy if you have to. With nothing else plugged into the TV (Do not plug in VCR, DVD, BlueRay, Entertainment system, or any other input device into TV), use the remote to go into the menu and see if you are getting the lines. If the lines are there, repeat step 1, and then try 2 again.

3. If you can get into your menu and see the screen, find the reset feature. Most TVs have an option to do a master reset. Try this. Some other have a magic Focus button, normally on the TV itself and not on the remote. See if yours has this and try it.

4. If none of this works for you, then you will have to get the TV repaired and I'm sorry to say that the only option I know is to contact AAFES.

If anyone else out there reading this thread does know of someone on the local economy that works on TVs, please let us know.

This is a German Television I believe since it has the German plug but is dual voltage. For certain reasons I would rather not send it with AAFES. I can't seem to get pics to upload on here but I could email them to you if you want to have a look. I cant get into the menu because the buttons stop working after I turn on, and it won't even turn back off.

Ok.. I'm at a loss for words..Decided to start tinkering with my tv and it came on with a purple screen as usual. I unplugged it and plugged it back up and its working fine.. I'm afraid to turn it back off however.

Very strange but glad it's working. It is possible that the cover was pinching a cable that may have got moved around durring a move. You opening the cover could have unpinched the cable. Or it is possible that there is a reset switch where the cover sits and that by removing the case you accidently reset the system. Next time you are back there looking around, see if you see a switch or a cable that might have got in the way of the cover. I am very interested in knowing how this fixed your problem.

As far as it being a German TV because it has a 220 Volt power cable is incorrect. It is an American TV and has the 220 Volt cable cause it's a multisystem TV. The German repair shops don't know what to do with these, or at least the few I have been to. If someone does know of one that can work on American or MultiSystem TVs in the Ramstein, K-Town, or Baumholder area, please let us know.

As far as powering it off, there should be no reson why turning it off would hurt it or change anything, but if all you did was power it off and back on to fix the problem, then this would tell me that there is a power problem or the inverter in the TV is damaged. In that case, turning it off and back on might end up causing you to have the purple screen again.

Please provide me with the exact make, model, and year purchased of your TV and I will do some more research and see if I can't figure out exactly what the problem is and maybe I can find a replacement part that might allow you to get this fixed for good.

I decided to leave it on a few hours and the screen went black and the buttons stopped functioning. I have unplugged it and turned it on many times and I get nothing but a black screen. It is a KTV model LTF46EH3A. I cannot seem to find any information on it. The company's website is www.ktvcorp.com/. I contacted their customer service and although its under warranty I have to get it repaired through AAFES and they will not take it without the sales receipt.
