Ubuntu problem 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I spoke to you on the phone recently. I will explain the full situation again just to allow you to remember everything that has happened.

I recently formatted harddrive, updated to windows 7 and dual booted Ubuntu on a seperate partition. This is how it was before however, I was using Windows Vista and an older version of Ubuntu with no problem.

I tried to install windows 7 Ultimate first and then install Ubuntu however, Ubuntu would not notice that windows 7 was an actual boot sector. Therefore this did not work.

I formatted the harddrive again completely. Started Ubuntu from live CD, didn't install but just brought up a terminal and used Gparted to partition the hard drive. After I did this, I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, and Ubuntu then saw the partition and I installed Ubuntu side by side with windows 7.

Windows 7 Ultimate has no problems what so ever. I can get into windows 7 and do everything I need to do. However, Ubuntu when I type StartX it goes to the load screen and looks as if it is going to start the program, however, then it takes me back to the command screen and has the following error message.

Failed to Load Module "i810" (module does not exist, 0)
setting master

waiting for X server to shut down dropping master

Laptop information:
HP Compaq Presario CQ60-220US
Mobile Intel 45 series family chipset
Dual core T3400 2.16 GHZ Processor
4 GB Ram

Please let me know if you need any more information. I look forward to getting this problem resolved. Thank you very much for your support.

I think your file system on the drive are not set correctly for Ubuntu becuase of how Windows 7 sets up the partitions and drives. Take a look at these two very good articles on how to set up Windows 7 with Ubuntu:

lifehacker.com/5403100/dual+boot-windows...u-in-perfect-harmony

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1035999

If you have done your dual boot this way and you are still having problems, let me know. I would try the lifehacker link way to do the dual partition as it lets you share documents between the Windows and Ubuntu.

Basically I think Ubuntu is having problems either reading or more likely writting to the drive that it is set up for. I think the read/write problem could be causing it problems loading up the drivers correctly. I'm just making an educated guess at this point and I am doing more research to see if I can't pinpoint the issue for you. What version of Ubuntu are you using and are you using the live cd or usb boot drive?
