I know it's a dumb question but... recently I think I post a message about that I was trying to install a CD that a friend gave me with windows XP which happened to be not genuine.( I should not have trust him)
here is my dumb question.... where i can get a new copy (true original) of windows xp or 7 so i can install it in my laptops for a decent price?
As of right now, my laptop is useless because windows xp currently install is not original

Look on the bottom of your laptop and see if you have a Windows Label that has the key. If it does, it will tell you what version of Windows it is for. So if you have a key for Windows XP Home Edition, you just need to get a copy of Windows XP home edition from someone, install it, and then when it asks for a key, make sure you use the one on the label. This will be the cheapest way.

Now if you want to install Windows 7, go to the BX/PX and buy Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade for $120. You will find this copy online for about $110 but once you add shipping into the price, it will end up being the same price as what they have at the BX/PX. Once you have the Windows 7 upgrade DVD put it into your computer, reboot and boot off the DVD. If your computer is a few years old you may have to install the 32bit version. Once you have booted off the DVD, you will be presented with an option to do an Upgrade or Custom install. Select the Custom option, and then on the next screen select your drive and towards the bottom of the drive selection screen is an area to select drive options. On the drive options screen, choose format and then follow the rest of the Wizard to complete the install.

I went to the BX yesterday and find the software but it does not tell me how many laptops or computer i can use it with. Traditionally it has been 3, is this still the case? I didn't get it because i wasn't sure about this.
Now since the software is not genuine and I have a windows XP upgrade CD(I put an add in ramstein yard sale and someone offer me one)will this fix the issue of the software not being genuine?

Each copy of Windows is good for only one computer. This is how it has always been. If you want Windows 7 for 3 computers, you have to buy 3 copies of Windows. Windows 7 had a family pack for $150 for a limited time only that allowed you to get 3 Licenses, which was basically one copy for up to 3 computers. This has been sold out for a while now. If you want to upgrade to Windows 7, do not buy a copy of Windows XP. Just go to the PX/BX and pick up the copy of Windows 7 upgrade for $120. This will be all you need. Again, this will only work for one computer.
