Bridging connections with laptop and xbox 360 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
I am trying to bridge my internet to my xbox 360. The only reason I am trying to do it is to do this is to get a different IP address on my xbox 360. I am trying to get around the region lock they have on some of there content. I am trying to get a U.S IP address. I can get a U.S. IP address on my laptop with (hide my IP) and (Ivacy) but my xbox 360 keeps showing a germany IP address. There has to be a way to get a U.S. IP address on it. I have searched the Internet, and seen were people have claimed to to it, but i cant figure it out. Any help would great.

Bridging your computer to your X-Box is fairly simple but won't solve your IP issue. You can bridge your X-Box to any computer that has 2 NIC cards, which basically turns your computer into a router. All you have to do is right click on the network adapter that is connected to the internet and turn on network sharing. Windows wizard should kick in and help you through the rest of the process. This is not your main problem though. The IP that is used to decide your location is your public IP that is assigned to your DSL or Cable modem. There is no way to change this and make it appear as a US address. What you can do is set up a VPN or Virtual Private Network with someone located in the U.S. You may be able to find companies that can provide this service for a cost. Do a search for VPN connections in the US. Unfortunately this will not be free, and if you did find one that was free, I would not trust it because you are basically trusting them with your network which will mean they will be able to see everything you do on the net while the VPN connection is up. If you have a friend with high speed internet in the states, you may be able to set up a VPN connection with them. Some routers support this where you can enter the VPN info in them and they will set up the connection. If your router does not support it, then you will have to use software that they (the company where you get your VPN connection from) should provide one for the VPN connection. If you do this with a friend, you will have to set up one PC as a VPN server and the other as a VPN client. I believe Windows has a wizard in the new connection area to help set up a VPN connection, but there are other great products like Cisco VPN. The software will have to be installed on your PC, and then you will need to bridge that connection so that your X-Box can use it. During your search, you may have found information on Proxy servers. This is not what you need. Proxies will only work for each PC and not for the shared devices connected to that PC. I hope this helps. I will do some research on the Web for you to see what companies I would recommend for this type of set up. Also, I hope you have a very good Internet connection as there is additional bandwidth overhead with a VPN connection and you could have a lag going over the VPN connection, specially if you are trying to send video. I'm sorry this is complicated, but there is no easy way to get around this and this is exactly what the Hollywood industry wants. I would be nice if we could have the same type of access to online material like the folks in the US have, but until companies stop restricting access by countries, we will have to try to find ways around it and sometimes have to pay for that additional service.

I found a couple sites you might want to read up on for doing a VPN connection. www.mydigitallife.info/2008/11/11/always...hotspotshield-altern and http://www.vpnaccounts.com/subscribe.html. I'm not recommending them as I dont know if they are good or not. I'm going to ask around and see if someone might know of a good company that provides VPN connections back to the US, but the good news is that it looks like its not too expensive to get this set up. The vpnaccounts.com site has it for $120 a year. Not bad if it works. Lets see if we can find a company that will let you try before you buy so that you can see if it works.

I am only needing it to download a few map packs, about 30mins. I Have tried bridging my connections on my laptop, but for some reason I keep getting ( an unexpected error has occurred) i have tried everything, every setting, ect.. I tried bridging on my friends laptop, with my xbox and it worked fine. I am running vista, and he had XP, so I don't know if that had something to do with it or not. I am lost when it comes to all this networking.

Can I use my desktop to bridge? It only has one Ethernet net plug, can I use a usb cable to get internet to the desktop, then use the Ethernet plug for the xbox? Any Ideas?

If you were able to find a way to get around the region block I know a ton of soldiers that would gladly make donations to this site. Including me!!
